PPC Advertising Basics at a Glance

Most people that have used the internet and have a website will tell you that to get regular traffic quickly, pay per click is a tried and tested method. For a while now, people have been using this technique as it is clear this type of advertising comes out far ahead of other traditional methods of advertising. Quite often the reason people don't use pay per click is because they just don't understand it; this article should provide sufficient information to make things clearer.

PPC Advertising in Search Engines

While there are many PPC advertising services to chose from, ppc advertising is best illustrated with Google's Adwords. All you need to do is decide which keyword term or phrase you want and create an ad you want people to see when they search that term. The searches that are then made on that term will bring up natural results and paid results which may show at the side or at the top of the page. The paid results are called Sponsored Listings and this is where your PPC ads will appear. The position your ad appears in the Sponsored Listings section is primarily determined by your bid amount on the term the visitor searched on.

Contextual PPC Advertising

All that happens here is an advertisement (some text with a url link), often in blocks of two or more, is placed on various websites that are popular and receive large numbers of visitors. When a visitor does click through to your site, they must stay for more than ten seconds for the previous (hosting) site to be paid, albeit a very small amount. Now, the ad you have inserted on another site is directly related to the product or services the hosting site offers otherwise the ad would be wasted.

PPC is Cost Effective

Of course with traditional advertising which is very costly, there is no guarantee any visitor will even bother looking at your ad, let alone give you any business. Because marketing with pay per click is targeted there is less money lost on advertising in the wrong areas. This means that people browsing the site where your ad is placed are already interested in what it is you are offering.

Results Are Immediate

For many people, part of the appeal about pay per click marketing is the immediacy. Many companies use this technique to gauge how good their advertising copy will be before they use it in more expensive areas. Almost all top companies use pay per click as part of their marketing strategy because it is the most effective at producing immediate results.
